OUTDOOR FAMILY PHOTOSHOOTS
Where will the photoshoot take place?
I have a few local places that even the locals often don’t know about and love discovering new locations all the time too, so I can either suggest somewhere amazing or, if there’s somewhere that’s really special to you guys, then I’m happy to consider that in the mix too. I look at shooting locations with a photographer’s eye and the end result may look a little different to what you expect.
There are various places around Berkshire and Buckinghamshire that we use regularly, including Finchampstead, Sonning, Wokingham, Bracknell, Iver and High Wycombe.
Most of my location shoots happen outdoors in the beautiful British countryside, to really create a special experience, but if you’re just looking to capture the real truth of your every day life together at home, then I’m happy to work around that too.
What time is the shoot?
This will vary all year around and depending on what your preferences are. If it’s that gorgeous, golden light look that you want, then that only happens at very specific times of the day i.e. the first couple and last couple of hours of light in the day. I’m constantly watching what the skies are doing to determine the best time to shoot at different times of the year, so if you’re unsure just let me know and I can give you some guidance on the best time to shoot.
If evenings don’t work well with the kids’ sleep times, don’t worry. These locations are so beautiful and fun for the kids to explore that we can really get beautiful photos and film at any time of day if we pick the right spots to shoot in, so don’t let that stop you.
What should we wear?
My favourite question! Obviously, it’s your shoot and I want you all to be comfortable. I would say though, that these photos are going to stay in your family forever and what looks good and in fashion now, may not look so great in years to come (neon, colour-changing t-shirts anyone?!). So, with that in mind, I reeeally strongly recommend going for something classic and timeless. No big logos or thin stripes that make your eyes go funny when you see them back on camera, smart is better.
For the guys, bow ties, braces, blazers (even with jeans) can all look great and for the girls nice dresses (not too shiny) and flowers in the hair are good. For ladies of all sizes, fitted tops are flattering and long dresses/ flowy skirts always look nice out in nature. Wear colours that complement each other, without matching everyone in exactly the same outfits and remember you may have a little bit of walking to do in the woods (although I keep it as minimal as possible depending on the location) but if you’re still happy to go with your heels, then go for it (I would!).
The styling in a shoot can make all the difference, so you’ll be glad you made the effort.
What happens if it rains?
I appreciate that you’re going to keep these photos forever and I take pride in providing beautiful photos and memories that will feel special to you.
Unfortunately, the weather can change significantly in a couple of hours so if you’re able to be flexible with dates and times then I can be too. I can’t take my camera equipment out in too much rain and the locations we use can get quite muddy. I’ll usually let you know by the day before if we can tell it’s going to be bad and sometimes, it might be on the day, but I’d then prioritise you to re-book to another date that works at your earliest convenience. It’s always a shame to have to postpone but has never not been worth it in the end.
If you’re not set on the golden sunset look, we can get great photos on cloudy days too when the light is soft and even, so it can be fun to see what we come up with on different days.
When can we see our photos?
I’ll invite you to my home studio in Winnersh around a week after your family photo session. You’re all welcome to come and see, including the kids, but I suggest that all decision makers are present too as this will be your chance to make your selections and order large prints for your walls.
What are my print display options?
You’ll get professional, quality prints in a lovely 9x6” print box, and I’ll also show you my beautiful wall art samples and guide you through what will look good in your home too.
I’ve searched far and wide and carefully chosen my most favourite suppliers in the country to showcase your gorgeous photos. Prices start at £199 and clients often spend from £199 up to £800 for wall art to decorate their homes for years to come.
How much does it cost and when do I need to pay?
The session fee of £59 is payable upfront to confirm your booking and covers my preparation, travel and shooting time.
I’ll cut down your photos to the very best and whittle them down to around 60 images for you to see in their full, professionally edited glory. There’s never any risk so you only pay for what you love after you’ve seen your beautiful photos.
The full print collection is available at just £499 (including the digital files) and wall art starts from £199. We’ll take payment at the viewing and ordering session once you’ve decided on what you love.
How much is the short film?
Whilst I’m busy taking your photos, Sunny will be shooting a beautiful short film for you. We’re a small family run business creating memories for other families like yours.
The normal standalone price is £249, but if you’re making a photo purchase, it’s a special add-on price of only £99.
The end film will be anywhere up to 2 minutes long.
What kind of editing do you do?
My outdoor family photoshoots are such an experience that everything tends to come together really beautifully in camera, and there’s not a lot of work needed on the end photos. The natural light is so flattering and we’ll occasionally take the flash out too depending on the weather and light that day, the locations are fabulous and our clients are so at ease that the photos tend to look great straight away.
I’ll just do a bit of work on things like the vibrance, exposure, bringing out all the best details and colours, and often the skin already looks great and doesn’t need a lot of detailed work in this light but I’ll make specific adjustments requested beforehand if you have temporary blemishes that you want removed.
I aim to get back to you as quickly as I can, but just so you know, I’ve got two small babies too so it can be a bit of a balancing act. Please bear with me if I don’t reply straight away :)
